Finally got my blog for ch 1. Had to create an entirely new blog because my last blog account no longer works. That being said, this was a very interesting chapter. It really shows the power of using Twitter and other social media to not only develop a PLN, but to find different resources for your classroom. I have to admit I am more of a lurker than poster. This is true with all my social media platforms. I'm just not comfortable with pointing out what I do in my class, because I know what works for me, may not work for others, and I don't want to come across as self-absorbed or narcissistic. I know some will not agree with my feelings, but those are my feelings. I am also a talker rather than a writer. I love to converse and chat with people. I like to observe the verbal and non-verbal feedback from my audience. I know I can refine, or alter my point based on the the back-and-forth discussion. I just don't have the same feeling with written communication. I will however, keep an open mind!
Gary,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I appreciate your honestly and openness when it comes to your feelings on sharing on social media as I once had the same feeling. I do encourage you to share what is happening in your classroom because although it may not work for some, it also might inspire others to try something new. It is also a way to celebrate what your students are doing, creating, and learning. I also started out as a lurker and consumer, and honestly, although I consistently tweet, I am still consuming way more than I create on Twitter. I appreciate you sharing and I look forward to your next post.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts Gary. I love that you are willing to keep an open mind. When I started using Twitter I was the same way, I was a lurker and didn't think anything I had to share would help anyone. But, it will help inspire or lift someone up. Maybe by making a connection on Twitter that will lead to a Google Hangout or Skype where you do get to "talk" in person? :) Thanks for your honesty on this post.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I get all of my ideas from lurking all the time. Great thoughts!
